Changing your vehicle's oil is one of the most important things you can do to extend the life of your vehicle. During an oil change, the technician will drain out the old motor oil and replace it with new motor oil. The oil filter also gets replaced at the same time.

The main purpose of oil is to lubricate. As oil ages it breaks down and becomes less effective. Old oil, low oil pressure and lack of oil can all cause damage to your engine as the moving parts rub together and wear each other out.

Manufacturer recommended maintenance schedules typically suggest changing your oil every 3,000–7,000 miles. Factors like driving in cold climates, towing a trailer, or aggressive driving can make it necessary to change your oil more often. At a minimum, oil should be changed twice each year.

Keep an eye on your pressure gauge and check the oil level regularly between oil changes. If the gauge shows very low pressure, if the "oil" light comes on or if the dipstick registers below the "safe" level, address it immediately. If you regularly run low on oil, report it to your mechanic; you may have a leak or may be burning oil.

Repairing or replacing brakes can be as simple as changing the brake pads. Repairs become more involved if the rotors have been damaged, or if other parts of the system like brake lines are failing.

Brakes should be inspected every 3 months or 3,000 miles. A screeching or grinding noise when you press the brake pedal is an indicator that metal parts are scraping together. Regular inspection and timely replacement of worn parts can help you avoid more extensive — and expensive — repairs and keep you and your family safer on the road.

Good automotive tires are one of the most critical components in driving safety. New tires, properly inflated, can make the difference in an emergency. Proper wheel alignment, good tire treads, regular tire rotation and high-quality tires all work together to improve gas mileage, handling, braking and the overall safety of your automobile.

Air conditioning systems require minimal maintenance — usually just a visual inspection per the manufacturer's recommended schedule unless there are symptoms of a problem. If you have a problem, let our certified technicians help you diagnose and get your auto A/C system working properly.

You will normally only seek service when you notice a decrease in cooling capability or when it isn't working at all. Your mechanic will most likely diagnose the cause by performing various tests to detect leaks or other problems. Common A/C services include:

  • Visually inspect the vehicle air conditioning system
  • Diagnose small leaks to eliminate waste
  • "Charge," or recharge, the refrigerant
  • Convert or retrofit your A/C from Freon to the newer R-134a
  • If the system cannot be retrofitted, a new compressor may be installed

Should a major problem arise in a 1994 or older vehicle, a retrofit may be needed. Retrofitting installs new parts that allow your vehicle to use the newer R-134a refrigerant. The two refrigerants (Freon and R-134a) cannot be intermixed.

Electrical systems require professional care. Most people know to call the mechanic when the "check engine" light comes on, but few realize the entire charging and starting system should be checked every two years. Malfunction of electrical components can hinder performance, reduce fuel efficiency, or even cause a car fire. Our mechanics are certified in repair and replacement of your automobile's electrical components. A partial list:

Straight from the neighbors.

I have had people try and scam me over and over again but not these guys! I was able to have my heater fixed (which was a huge project in itself), fixed a pinched wire on a headlight, fixed my leaking oil and attached my license plate to the front as well as got me a sticker for around $600! They kept me up to date on everything they were doing and the car runs better than it ever has before! THESE GUYS ARE AWESOME! DON'T GO ANYWHERE ELSE!

The guys at KNB are excellent mechanics who are reasonable, fair and have great integrity. I know nothing about vehicles and trust these guys explicitly. They always go with the lesser option first to find a solution, then if more work is necessary, they will go from there. KNB is the BEST!!!
